Saline High School makes Newsweek's Top 1,500

Saline Area Schools is pleased to announce that for the third time in school history, and second consecutive year, Saline High School has made the Newsweek Magazine’s list of the Best High Schools in America.  Saline High School is ranked 1313th in the country.  Newsweek states that all schools on the list are in the top 6% in the nation.

According to Executive Director of Assessment and Secondary Education Dr. Sean Enright, the formula used in determining a school’s relative ranking is derived by taking the number of AP/IB tests administered divided by the size of the graduating class.  If the quotient is greater than one you make the list.

We are also proud of the fact that in addition to administering a great number of AP tests, we have also had the highest pass rate (scores of three or higher) in the state of Michigan on AP assessments for the last several years.  Dr. Enright states, “if all other school district data remains relatively constant next year, Saline High School is poised to break into the top 1000 for the first time, this would constitute a remarkable milestone for our academic program.”

The aforementioned ranking is based on the graduating class of 2008 data.  With 634 Advanced Placement tests administered last month, the district projects an even higher ranking when the list is released again next June.

Saline High School Principal Ben Williams remarked, “It is noteworthy that although our graduating class size has remained relatively constant over the last few years, the number of AP tests administered continues to rise.  This positive trend is indicative of more Saline High School students challenging themselves with rigorous coursework each year.  We are extremely proud of our students and their accomplishments.”
